Ethical Decision Making and Ethical Leadership Essay
Ethical Decision Making and Ethical Leadership - Essay Example The leaders, therefore, will discourage the worker from accepting the gift no matter the reasoning and justification. The email would look like ââ¬Ëââ¬ËDear officer, I am sorry to inform you that if you breach the companyââ¬â¢s rule that abhors acceptance of gift from customers then be ready to face the consequences. This rule should be followed at all times.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ This approach hampers the organizationââ¬â¢s democratic space where the views of others are not taken into account leading to the growth of an autocratic system. The management is likely to plunge into a culture where they impose strict self-centered rules. Over time, with the resistance and breach of these rigid rules, the leaders may escalate up the moral reasoning ladder making them adopt a more rational perspective in solving moral dilemmas in decision making. Moral reasoning is not complete at stage one and that is the reasoning why it is regarded as a reasoning pattern for children who do not have the capacity to rationalize between good and bad. They, therefore, have to blindly set or follow the laid down laws or regulations. Convection and post convection stages are eye-openers in moral

Can the direct targeting of civilians ever be morally justified Essay
Can the direct targeting of civilians ever be morally justified - Essay Example The Second World War caused numerous consequences to different nations owing to its magnitude and scale involving a vast geographic proportion of the world economies. It has been noted in this regard that the Second World War had been commenced with the participation of the then topmost nations of the world, which apparently signified the polarized world of the 20th century, where one side was apparently stronger and powerful than the other side. Comparing the casualties caused due to the First and the Second World War, especially those suffered by the civil societies around the world excluding the military property losses, historians revealed that area bombing campaign in the latter had a more devastating result. To be noted, the concept of area bombing was first developed by the British military during the war, where they had planned to attack certain specific areas of Germany as a part of their war strategy. The decision of Britain to attack German civil areas through the bombing strategy was mainly with the intention to deindustrialize the conditions of Germany and to make the nation weak from within. To be precise, with the civilians being affected due to the warfare, it was quite likely to increase threats for domestic social as well as political unrests. Also, with the destruction of such a huge proportion of civilians, Germany would eventually become weak to afford the continuously rising need for soldiers to fight its enemies. This further meant that Germany will not be able to attack or pose a threat to any other nation during the Second World War. Therefore, it can be apparently observed that the intention behind area bombings by British on German civilians was to make the country vulnerable both economically as well as socially, with the expectation that it would eventually drive the nation away from participating in the wars. Apparently, this area bombing approach taken by the British military against Germany,

Human Resource Activities of Qantas Airways Essay Example for Free
Human Resource Activities of Qantas Airways Essay The Qantas Airways is the largest airline in Australia. Its Human Resource Management operates in the company in four major areas, which are business segments, corporate, shared services, development, and learning. This report gives limelight to the Qantas airways HRM and its role in ensuring perfect operations of the company. It further discusses change management and job analysis and design. The company has undergone intensive change management such as cutting of prices and labor costs in order to ensure high productivity, moderation of wages as well as the introduction of flexible structures through a versatile and motivated workforce. Moreover, the HRM is also responsible of ensuring that right people are hired and given necessary training under job analysis and design. However, despite the roles that the company has entrusted the HRM, there have been heightened cases of accidents and strikes from dissatisfied workers alleging that they are paid meager salaries. This shows a HRM gap in delivering its responsibilities. Therefore, the report further argues that the HRM has failed in its change management and job design and analysis strategy. In order to correct the situation, the report further proposes that the HRM change its training and communication model. As a means to an end, the report discusses some of the implications emerging from the HRM problems and ends with a comprehensive summary. Description of Qantas and their HRM Activities The Qantas Airways is Australiaââ¬â¢s largest airline. It has a solid history as it began its business years back by transporting passengers and mails. Today, the company has expanded its operations in almost 140 destinations across the globe. It is Australiaââ¬â¢s largest employers with around 37,000 employees. The human resource management operates in the company in four major areas, which are business segments, corporate, shared services, and development and learning. Under corporate level, the HRM is responsible for employeesââ¬â¢ remuneration as well as benefits, the industrial relations of the airline with its competitors and development of the management. In the business segment level, the HR teams often collaborate with other business segments to ensure successful delivering of strategies that will ensure competitive advantage. Human resource has a major responsibility in the company and under shared services; the HRM is responsible of managingà workers records, supporting remuneration and recruitment process and managing employeesââ¬â¢ compensation as well as coming up with strategic plans on staff travelling schedules and schemes (Belobaba, Odoni and Barnhart, 2009). Finally, under the learning and development level, the HRM comes up with training programs for employees to help them deliver their work effectively. HR Functions: Change Management and Job Analysis and Design at the Qantas Airways Discussion of Two HR functions in the Qantas Change Management The Qantas airline was formerly owned by the government hence did not perceive efficiency and profits as its prime goal (Rothkopf, 2009). After its privatisation in 1995, the HRM had to adopt various management practices in order to overcome the companyââ¬â¢s external and internal influences. The HRM in their change management has emphasised on cutting costs and more so reduction of labour costs to guarantee heightened productivity, moderation of wages as well as the introduction of flexible structures through a versatile and motivated workforce (Marks, 2007). Cutting labour costs in the Qantas airways have involved strict measures from the HRM such as reducing wages and salaries through eliminating costly practices (Hernandez, 2011.). The Qantas airline HRM has undertaken immense changes in order to cope with diverse external and internal factors (Gillen and Morrison, 2005). Various factors led to changes in the HR management such as the need to have more profits in the company a nd the fact that the company was under government ownership. This means that the airline had maintained its authoritarian hierarchical structure, autocratic form of leadership, and strict procedures and rules (Hughes, 2012). In addition, the airline has been involved in a major change as far as training is concerned and in 2003, the HRM facilitated in the expansion of the companyââ¬â¢s apprenticeship programme (Gunn, 1988). According to Kirkpatrickââ¬â¢s model of learning and training, training helps in ensuring affirmative results (Kearns, 2010). Job Analysis and Design Job design and analysis is the cornerstone of the Qantas HRM. Job analysis can be viewed as the hub of all human resource management activities that are needed for effective organizational functioning (Berman et al, 2009). Under job analysis, the HRM is responsible for planning, recruitment, selection, placement, and induction of workers (Berman et al, 2009). The procedures that are often supported by job analysis process include personnel selection, training, job evaluation as well as performance appraisal (Berman et al, 2009). In addition, the process of job analysis supports the Qantas organizational strategy in dealing with market competition and talent crisis. According to human resource theory, strategic HRM focuses on connecting all HR functions with organizational goals (Rothwell and Benscoter, 2012). The Qantas airline HRM in the process of job analysis determines various training needs of workers. Moreover, in job analysis process, the HRM determines on some of the things that affect behavior in the company. After job analysis process, the next step is job design, which aims at outlining and organizing duties, responsibilities, as well as tasks in a single unit in order to achieve particular objectives. Job design in the Qantas airways is essential in enabling effective feedback. In addition, training is an imperative part in job design in order to make sure that employees are conscious of their work demands. Training encompasses leadership training to employee orientation (Aulenbach, 2007). Development and training plays an imperative role in ensuring success of a company. Today, most organizations view training as an imperative role of human resource (Price, 2011). From research conducted, it is apparent that most organizations such as the Qantas airways are spending a lot of money on training with a belief that it will consequently give them a competitive advantage in both global and local market (Jackson, Schuler and Werner, 2011). According to human resource theory (Bacon et al, 2009), workers need maximum support from human resource function. In that case, the Qantas airways offer training to staff in order to motivate them as well as ensure competitive advantage in the company. Frances (2009) avows that training is imperative in ensuring imperative piloting skills. In 2009, the company opened approximately $10 million staff training centers in an effort to build on economies of scale. The HRM through job design help the workforce to make vital adjustments. Problem s and Implications Faced by Qantas Although the two major basic functions of HRM is to ensure successful change management and job analysis and design, the Qantas airline has undergoneà through various challenges in these two areas. The HRM in their change management focused on cutting costs such as labor costs in order to increase productivity, ensure moderate workersââ¬â¢ salary and introduce flexible structures. However, they have failed in ensuring effective and non-biased change management. This is because, workers recently have been complaining of being paid meager salaries and even gone for strikes. Under change management, they should have ensured successful remuneration of employees. However, it is embarrassing to note that a reputable company like Qantas with such successful change management strategy has failed to take care of its employees. The unsolved salary issues have caused employee outcry and various scandals in the company. The pilots have been protesting over meager salaries and the union workers have continued to demonstrate over pay inequality arguing they are paid 25% less than their equals in Victoria (Hernandez, 2012). In a survey that was conducted in 2012, on three thousand Qantas employees, the workers expressed dissatisfaction with the management of the company mostly the HRM (McDonald, 2012). Serious staff challenges have continued threatening the company yet up to now the HRM is still reluctant to come up with a new change management model such as ADKAR model that will cater for the interests of workers and allow the company to focus activities on particular business results (Hiatt, 2006). Under Job analysis and design, it is apparent that the HRM made immense mistakes in choosing the right candidates. Despite heavy training programs that the HRM has invested in during job analysis and design process, it is only in 2008 that the company was involved in an in-flight incident, which caused ser ious injuries to passengers and death of 129 passengers due to specious commands (Frances, 2009). In addition, it is apparent that training has not had a positive impact in the company since in 2006, the Qantas Airways pilots failed to monitor their position hence ended up to the wrong runway. Moreover, in 2009, the companyââ¬â¢s pilots failed to acknowledge and decided to overshoot their destinations by 150 miles (Frances, 2009). Frances (2009) alleges that captains in the company are not competent enough as they lacked knowledge on use of stick shaker and stall recovery thus causing serious accidents. It is hence clear that the HRM department leaves a lot to be desired as incidences have continued to intensify despite the companyââ¬â¢s change management and job design and analysis strategy (Louise, 2011). With such a successful airline company, it is apparent that its HRM is ineffectual and has only led to losses than success. The company asserts that it is committed fully to developing its people, yet they do not seem to know how they can forge a beneficial relationship with its staff. There has been a lot of change in the company including cutting of costs, developing training programs, outsourcing working rules and regulations, collaborating with the unions yet the situation seem to be moving from bad to worse. It is apparent that the HRM has been incompetent in hiring the right personnel and dealing with employees. Implications to Stakeholders Various stakeholders include trade unions, government, shareholders, customers, community, business partners, employees, the media, and non-governmental organizations. They all have a major influence on the companyââ¬â¢s performance and its strategy. The media coverage on wrong decisions in the Qantas have affected negatively on the companyââ¬â¢s image. The problems discussed obviously imply that the HRM, shareholders, and business partners have been reluctant in solving the current crisis hence affecting the performance of the company. Because of the accidents reported, most consumers are not keen on using Qantas airline hence affecting profitability (BBC News, 2012). Additionally, the challenges in the company have also affected employees and consumers on grounds that they have lost confidence with the running of the company (Sandilands, 2011). The looming disagreement between Qantas and its pilots shows clearly that the HRM and business partners have failed in ensuring they contribute in effective management of the company. In addition, the Non-governmental organizations have failed in conflict resolution between the Qantas and its employees. It is apparent that the HRM, business partners, and non-governmental organizations involved have failed in coming up with rational solutions to ensure such current disputes do not develop into a major crisis. Instead of the companyââ¬â¢s CEO, Alan Joyce holding productive talks, he has been busy making provocative comments in numerous heated exchanges. For instance, he condemned union members on issues regarding wages arguing that their talks and protests were baseless (Bamber, 2011). The union leaders in return criticized N senior managers and accused them of tarnishing the brand image of the company while they were awarding themselves hefty salaries. This hence implies that theà community as well as Union members have lost confidence on the companyââ¬â¢s stakeholders and this in return has led to bad publicity and reduced profitability. Consequently, the media has given a wide coverage on the companyââ¬â¢s latest controversies meaning that it is benefiting financially because of the developing story. It is upsetting to see Qantasââ¬â¢ employees go on strike due to poor management issues in a company owned by various stakeholders. The shareholders, business partners, the HRM, CEO, and Nongovernmental Organizations have a major role to play in ensuring issues in the company are resolved and the company goes back to its initial profitable situation. Therefore, they need to sit down and come up with a rational plan towards improvement (Bamber, 2011). Action plan and Recommendations With the increasing incidences, there is hence a need to come up with an action plan. First, all the stakeholders must meet to discuss on ways to solve the recent crisis. In the meeting, there will be change of communication and training model to more rational models that are employee oriented. The HRM will carry out the process and engage other stakeholders to give ideas on how salary and training issues ought to be handled. The change process will take place from 1st to 28th November in the companyââ¬â¢s boardroom. To carry out the process, the employees will be interviewed in order to show some of the areas they would need change. The entire companyââ¬â¢s workforce and managers will be given information concerning the changed plan. The recent problems involving HRM function has caused the company to suffer financially. The Qantas airline in their website asserts that, ââ¬Å"Qantas is committed to providing meaningful jobs with competitive salaries and superior benefitsâ⬠(Qantas, n.d). However, they have failed in fulfilling their promise as the strikes reported tell a different story. In addition, they allege that they ââ¬Å"provide targeted, quality training to the Qantas group and assists in the development of skillsâ⬠(Qantas, n.d). However, the accidents reported show a major gap in their training strategy. The HRM should revisit their training and communication model and make a change on it. It is time the company moved out of a market approach change strategy that only focus on making profits and focus on employee oriented approach that consider the interests of workers. With an effective trainingà model, there will be workshop and focus group sessions where employees air their grievances and come up with solutions to their problems (Frances, 2009). In addition, effective HRM communication should contribute successfully to teamwork, learning, innovation, safety, and productivity (Krizan et al, 2010). Moreover, the HRM should invest heavily on their pilot candidates and ensure that they get the right training. Coming up with a HR strategic oriented communication model is important in guaranteeing that employees are at par with requirements and needs of the company. This will help in discussing paramount issues affecting the running of the company. Once there is fit between communicat ion and training model in relation to the role of the HRM, the next step should be to come up with a tactical plan on how the HR will be managing their roles to ensure there are no more scandals. The HR needs to be involved fully in daily operations of the company to ensure alignment with needs of the employees. Moreover, the HRM should come up with performance management plan, which is imperative in following up on the performance of the staff members. The HRM should also be transparent in its strategy. This means that the companyââ¬â¢s operational and strategic agenda should be communicated clearly to workers and must be accepted. This will ensure employeesââ¬â¢ needs are met and there are no operational challenges. In addition, its mission should be shared with other shareholders to make sure they are on the right path to correcting the image of the company. Todayââ¬â¢s HR models recognize on the fact that people do not leave their issues at home when they are going to work. For the company to be successful, it should focus on the needs of the workers whether personal or professional. This will motivate the workers to deliver quality work. In that case, there will be less accidents and remuneration problems in the company (Frances, 2009). In addition, in training sessions, the HR should focus on changing staff membersââ¬â¢ attitude towards work and teach them on how to have a positive attitude. This will help in motivating workers and encouraging them to air their grievances through dialogue.
Defining and analysis of illegal immigration
Defining and analysis of illegal immigration Illegal immigration is defined as the trespassing across the national borders in a way that violates the immigration laws of the concerned country. The most commonly seen pattern of illegal migration is from countries with low socio-economic level to comparatively developed ones. Although there are a myriad of causes behind it, the primary motivation that plays a major role in illegal immigration is the hope for greater economic opportunities and improved quality of life. Crossing the prohibited borders is not the only way in which the process of illegal immigration is carried out. There are times when a person enters a country legally, but violates the terms and conditions of his visa and passport. If he overstays in the destination country, crossing the legally allowed time frame, it equally accounts for illegal immigration. There are various models which purposefully justify the concept of illegal immigration. At the end of the day, when we look at things, it is all about a person trying to better his life. It is here that compassion and justice intermingle to form a complex concoction, giving rise to a moral question as to who is at fault. Is it the man who left the door open or the man who entered the house without permission? Definition of illegal immigrant Illegal Immigrant is the person not being a citizen of the country entered into a country without a valid sanction or continue to stay in a country after the expiry of his valid stay in that country. Illegal immigration is the movement of people across national borders in a way that violates the immigration laws of the destination country. Illegal immigrants are also known as illegal aliens to differentiate them from legal aliens Article Summarization The authorities must be harsh with employers who hire illegal immigrants With no job opportunities, foreigners would not be lured to overstay and work illegally. Recently revealed that about 40,000 Indian citizens went missing in Malaysia after their tourist visas expired and that the visa-on-arrival facility had been abused. India has been advising its people not to work in Malaysia illegally. to ensure those seeking employment here through legal means are not cheated Causes of illegal immigrant Poverty While economic models do look at relative wealth and income between home and destination countries, they do not necessarily imply that illegal migrants are always impoverished by standards of the home country. The poorest classes in a developing country may lack the resources needed to mount an attempt to cross illegally, or the connections to friends or family already in the destination country. Overpopulation Population growth which exceeds the carrying capacity of an area or environment results in overpopulation. Spikes in human population can cause problems such as pollution, water crisis, and poverty. World population has grown from 1.6 billion in 1900 to an estimated 6.7 billion today. In Mexico alone, population has grown from 13.6 million in 1900 to 107 million in 2007. Family reunification Some illegal immigrants seek to live with loved ones, such as a spouse or other family members. Family reunification visas may be applied for by legal residents or naturalized citizens to bring their family members into a destination state legally, but these visas may be limited in number and subject to yearly quotas. This may force their family members to enter illegally to reunify. Wars and asylum It is important to note that the status of illegal immigrant may coincide with or be replaced by the status of asylum seeker for emigrants who have escaped a war or repression and have illegal crossed into another state. If they are recognized as legitimate asylums by the destination state, they will then gain legal status. However, there may be numerous potential asylums in a destination state who are unwilling to apply or have been denied asylum status, and hence are categorized as illegal immigrants and may be subject to punishment or deportation. Effects of illegal immigrants to Malaysia Poverty Illegal immigrants that enter the country are searching for job that offered higher wages that they cannot even get at their own country. The jobs vacancies in Malaysia are limited. So, by the entering of illegal immigrants, local citizens will be unemployment. That is because employers are preferred to employ foreign employees due to lower cost that needed. The increasing rate of unemployment will lead to the increasing rate of poverty. Unemployment may cause the citizens do not have source of income and resulting to the poverty cases. Increase in the crime and social ills When there are too many illegal immigrants in the country, the crime cases and also social ills will be increased. The criminal and background of illegal immigrants that enter the country are being unknown. So, whoever can enter our country illegally including criminal and they will make problems in this country. For example, there are many cases on robbery that lead by illegal immigrants. They also always make problems among them such as fighting that sometimes cause death. Increase in government expenditure In order to overcome the issues of illegal immigrants, government had done many strict acts. Government had done all those acts to forcibly repatriate the illegal immigrants to their country. Government need to spent higher expenses because they want to sent as many as illegal immigrants as possible. The high expenses included the cost in repatriate them and also in handling them. The expenses should be spent to the country, but it being wastefully used for handling illegal immigrants issues. Health problems Foreigners employees that want to enter and work at this country must undergo certain medical checkup in order to ensure they are in good health condition. It is also to ensure they are free from infectious diseases such as H1N1, tuberculosis and others. On the other hand, the illegal immigrants are not undergoing such medical checkup. So, if they had had the diseases, the possibility they will spread the diseases is high. Then, many of the local citizens will be infected. Health problems can affects the country badly. Slavery Some of the illegal immigrants are entered the country through agents. They are offered jobs and will get high payment. However, many of them are being cheated by the agents and be slave to them. For example, many women being smuggle to this country and forced to work. At the first time, they are promises job with high payments. But when they arrived the country, they forced to be sex slave or prostitutions. Effects to the illegal immigrants country Increase expenses The country that their citizens involved in illegal immigrants need to make some action in solving the problems. They had to take back the citizens back to country and other related acts. The government expenses will be increased. In addition, if there are several problems that involving their citizens such as health, smuggling and others, they also need to spent some expenses. Bad image Illegal immigrants that come to others country will cause many problems and their country will get bad image due to the issues. In addition, if the illegal immigrants had caused such problems such as criminal actions and social ills, the other country will have such bad overview on that country involved. Loss employees Due to many citizens that immigrates outside, the country will lost many labor included skilled workers. They immigrates illegally in order to get higher payment that offered bay other countries. However, it also included skilled workers that have high potential for their own country. Then, the country will need to get workers from other countries in order to replaced the citizens that have been immigrates. Relationships among countries will be affected Such countries will have diplomatic relationship such as Malaysia and Indonesia. Due to the illegal immigrants issues, it can affect the relationship. If the illegal immigrants had cause problem at other countries, the country involved will have bad view to the citizens and also the country. The relationship will be affected due to all the problems. Effected illegal immigrant to International Trade Exported on good Illegal immigrant without doubt, affects some parts of international trade. Our country does not have any records on the amount of them who stayed or came to Malaysia illegally. Therefore, we cannot disclose the amount of workforce or labor force in our country. Most of them work as labor in construction site or factory. Due to this illegally immigrants problem, those factories which employ these immigrant, could not export their goods as in does not come from our own countrys labor force and we cannot disclose it as domestic goods. Simultaneously, it will affect the international trade process. Skills and technique In terms of skills and technique, there are a lot of factories which depends on machines and computerized system. We need to send a lot of workers to overseas to develop and upgrading their skills. Due to this illegal immigrant problem, we cannot send any workers as most of factories workers are among them. Therefore, it is difficult for our country to create bond with those developed countries which provide those training for the workers as it is one of the objective of international trade. Wages and salary Malaysia is a potential country for development. Many investors likely to invest in our country as they see the profits potential. In this situation, a lot of development companies will grab their chance by convincing those investors through development projects. Most of them are keep to hire these illegal immigrant as labor as they know they can pay the labors cheaply. Somehow, it will create problem and give negative images for our country. Recommendation Responsibility of Ministry of Human Resource They should analyze and calculate the amount of unemployed citizen in our country. Through this process, the can arrange or give those labor job to them. They might be calculative in terms of salary compared to illegal immigrants. Therefore, they should be rated on their skills for their salary where higher paid and post for skillful worker and other way around. As the ministry got records for these domestic labors, they can easily walk away from the job as they can be traced easily. In terms of standardizing and upgrading their skills, a lot of programs or classes should be arranged through human resources department also. Simultaneously, all the goods produce by local company which hired local labors can be exported as it is assumed as local goods and could contribute a lot in international trade. Responsibility of Ministry of Defense Apart from that, to reduce illegal immigrants, Ministry of Defense should responsible on it. Through Polis Di Raja Malaysia (PDRM), they can gather all the immigrants and send them to their country. Those who already got permit or visa to stay in our country could stay and work for our country in few amounts of labors. So, any bad action by them could be traced and any lawful terms can be charged on them. Therefore, it will be no negative images in our country and investor can easily make profit here without worries. Co-operation from the company which hire illegal immigrant. Other than that, those companies which hired a lot of illegal immigrants should support the effort on reducing these immigrants. Hiring them easily is inappropriate way to gain profit quickly. They should be very particular on this matter. Although illegal immigrants did no care a lot on their wage, it is such unlawful manner to hire them as worker as it breaks the rules. Development companies especially need to co-operate with immigration or PDRM in solving this problem. They should disclose the amount of workers or labors they used at the side and provide the records and information of the workers to avoid hiring illegal immigrants. Change in law Some of illegal immigrants might think that they will only be send back to their countries if they were caught entering our country illegally. Therefore, they should some change in the punishment for those immigrants. They should be jailed or other higher punishment so that they will realize how hard it is if they were caught in Malaysia. As most of them entered Malaysia through sea, the marine soldier should put a lot of effort regarding this matter. They should analyze how these immigrants can passed the border easily. Besides, they need to be more efficient in guarding the coast and it will simultaneously secure reputation as the navy. Co-operation with the immigrants country Co-operation with the immigrants country also can contribute in reducing illegal immigrants in our country. Through Ministry of Foreign and Domestic, a lot of ways could be discussed with their government upon this matter. They should be responsible on their people who become illegal immigrants in our country. Besides, it will create bond between our country and them so that, we do not have to worry on this immigrants matter anymore as their country will settle it themselves.

Psychology and Computers :: Psychological Technology Essays
Psychology and Computers For this paper I decided on the topic of how computers influence my chosen profession, and since I am a Psychology major this paper is going to be about Psychology and Computers. I plan to study School Psychology in particular. Where to begin? Computers affect so many aspects of Psychology. Let us start with the basic computer which is the calculator. We Psychology majorââ¬â¢s use the calculator all the time, particularly in the class of test and measurements, are shown how to administer a test to students, adults, etcâ⬠¦ Then shown to calculate the different results and the different formulas we use and what the formulas mean. We also use the calculator, especially a calculator with graphing functions, to make graphs and to see what the math formula actually did. We can see what it measures and actually what the formula means. In another class called Senior research, we are using the ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) which is a data analysis tool that is located in the Windows Excel Program, to see if the outcome of the ANOVA was statistically significant or if the outcome of the just had to do with interference of other variables. Also in the Excel Program, after the outcome of the ANOVA we use the Chart Wizard to make a graph to show the results of the ANOVA. Those are just some of the things that I use everyday which require a computer in Psychology, and this is just undergraduate work. I have not begun to tell all of the influences that computers have on Psychology. I plan on going to Graduate school after I graduate from Lake Superior State University with my Bachelors of Science in Psychology. In Graduate school I plan - 3 - to study School Psychology, but just to get into Graduate school I have to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). This is a Computer Based Test which measures a studentsââ¬â¢ verbal, quantitative, and analytical skills. By using the computer test you will be able to get your results right away after you take the test, unlike when I took the ACT (National College Admission Examination) to get into Lake Superior State. The ACT was a paper and pencil test which took two to three weeks to get my test results back.
Biography of Dwight David Eisenhower Essay -- American Presidents Eise
Biography of Dwight David Eisenhower On October 14, 1890, Mrs. Ida Elizabeth Eisenhower gave birth to her third son, Dwight David. He was a younger brother to Arthur B. and Edgar A. Eisenhower. Dwight was born in Denison, Texas, where his family was living at the time. After his fatherââ¬â¢s general store went out of business in Abilene, Kansas, they were forced to move to Texas, where Mr. David Eisenhower landed a forty-dollar a month job at a small railroad there. Back in Abilene, a new creamery plant was built and an old friend of Mr. Eisenhower asked him to move back and work for him. It did not pay much more than his job in Texas, but the chance of advancement was better. In the spring of 1891, the Eisenhower family boarded a train and left for Kansas. They lived in a small house in Kansas on South East Second Street where Mrs. Eisenhower gave birth to three more sons. The first one born there was Roy J. who was strong and healthy like his older brothers. He was born on August 9, 1892. The next son, born on May 12, 1894, died after a few months. The last son was born on February 1, 1898 and was named Earl D. Needing a bigger house because of all the children, the Eisenhowers moved. Mr. Eisenhowerââ¬â¢s brother, Abraham, sold them a house on 201 South East Fourth Street. Growing up, Dwightââ¬â¢s older brothers gave him the nickname, Ike. Ike and his brothers did a lot of work around the house. They would alternate between waking up at four oââ¬â¢clock A.M. to shovel coal into the furnace, milking the cow, washing dishes, other housework, feeding the horse, tending the garden, and gathering eggs. They also had to cook meals. The only extra money the boys had was supplied by themselves. Their father gave them each a small portion of the garden to raise crops, and sell to the people of Abilene. Although it was not much money, the boys were happy with what they had. Ikeââ¬â¢s mother supplied the energy needed to run the house. While the children were at school and her husband at work, she managed the garden and livestock, thus feeding the family. She did most of the disciplining, except for the most severe misconduct, which was handled by her husband. Most importantly, she held the house together. She was a deeply religious woman. She believed firmly in her Christian beliefs and opposed all violence and war. Ikeââ¬â¢s father was a quiet man who was well respected. ... ...used of corruption for accepting gifts from a businessman who had problems with the Internal Revenue Service, along with many other problems. Other problems Ike had during his second term included a civil rights crisis in 1957, problems with Fidel Castro, clashes with Communist China in 1955 and again in 1958, and with the Soviets over Berlin in 1959. Overall, as a political leader, Ike rejected extremes. He sought the middle ground on every political problem, and believed that the extremes to the right and to the left in any political dispute are always wrong. The Constitution prevented Ike from running again in 1960, thus he retired to a small farm he owned outside Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. There he raised cattle on his farm and spent the winter months in Palm Desert, California playing golf. Although he was retired, he still played a part in politics. In 1964, he endorsed Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater, who lost, and in 1968 supported his former Vice Preside nt, Richard Nixon, who won. Soon after, Ikeââ¬â¢s health began to fail. In 1965, he suffered three more heart attacks, and spent his last few months in Walter Reed Army Hospital. Ike died on March 28, 1961.

How do composers use distinctively visual techniques Essay
How do composers use distinctively visual techniques to shape our interpretations of the world? Composers use distinctively visual techniques to shape the audiences interpretations of the world. John Mistoââ¬â¢s play ââ¬ËThe Shoe-horn Sonata and the RTA advertisement ââ¬ËNotesââ¬â¢ uses distinctively visual techniques such as dialogue, photographic images, and music to effectively shape the audiences interpretations of the world. Firstly Misto uses dialogue as a distinctively visual technique in his play ââ¬ËThe Shoe Horn Sonata to shape the audiences interpretations of the world. Misto uses juxtaposition as the dialogue consists of both private and public conversations which create powerful links between the two characters. The first scene shows Bridie re-enacting the kowtow, a tribute to the emperor of Japan. This kowtow was done when a Japanese guard would cry out ââ¬ËKeireiââ¬â¢. Stage directions allow the readers to visualise exactly how the composer wants i t to be performed. The audience is able relate in some way and feels engaged with Bridie at this point. Misto then uses photographic images, projected on a screen behind Bridie to support the dialogue. These images consist of several 1940 posters for the womens army, as well as photographs of the Australian army nurses disembarking in Singapore. Not even halfway through scene 1 the use of dialogue and photographic images have raised a concern to the audience of the pain and suffering that many women endured at the hands of the Japanese, yet their stories were not widely known. This has shaped their interpretations of war vastly, as there is much more horror, truth and death involved then just men on the front line. In the RTA advertisement ââ¬ËNotesââ¬â¢ the use of no dialogue is so the importance of photographic images is essential for conveying the point of view of the advertisement, which is ââ¬Ëslow downââ¬â¢. The photographic images show the last message left by each young person and the rush they are in. The images are shown in a slow motion effect which gives the audience time think of the situations and then evokes an emotional response. The images show the surroundings of where how the message was left, this shows that these people come from all different family backgrounds and have a relationship with members of their family. Therefore we realize that these rushing deaths can happen to anyone, regardless of who you are. This shapes the viewerââ¬â¢s interpretation of the world showing that rushing is not worth the consequences of speeding and therefore reinforces the importance of slowingà down. Lastly in ââ¬ËShoe Horn Sonataââ¬â¢ Misto uses music from the period to go with images projected. The use of music adds emotion to the play and It places the audience in the historical context and in some parts it suggests the irony of the situations the women went through. An example is when Bridie criticises the British, the song ââ¬ËRule Britanniaââ¬â¢ is played. This song is very patriotic and helps us understand the irony of the situation. The use of music creates emotion within the audience helps shape their interpretation of war, as there is much more horror, truth and death involved then just men on the front line. In the RTA advertisement ââ¬ËNotesââ¬â¢ the slow solemn music is used to arouse emotion within the audience. This shapes the audiences interpretations of the world because the slow musical beat actually relaxes the audience therefore causing them to slow down and think about the consequences of speeding and the importance of not rushing. John Mistoââ¬â¢s play ââ¬ËThe Shoe-horn Sonata and the RTA advertisement ââ¬ËNotesââ¬â¢ uses distinctively visual techniques to effectively shape the audiences interpretations of the world. This is done brilliantly by an impressive use of dialogue, photographic images, and musi c.
